Seven Life Contexts

Bookmark and Share
What are you doing with your life?

Lots of personal development programs talk about the importance of making goals, creating mission statements, and simply designing our lives, instead of just making a living.

Even more foundational, it may be useful to think of our overall life context, or archetype, to fit in one of the following seven main categories.  Of course we may overlap into many categories at various stages of our lives, but identifying a primary context can be useful in resolving many conflicts/decisions.  In other words, see the bigger picture.

What’s Your Life Context?

1. Enjoying it moment by moment.

This context is for those who like to be spontaneous and free spirited.  It’s a great context to relieve stress and have no attachments.  There’s beauty in possibility.

2. Having a family and continuing evolution.

Most people default to this framework that our social culture reinforces.  We go through the system, integrate into the workforce, find a partner, and continue the cycle.  It’s simple and it works.

3. Experiencing, exploring, and co-creating new paradigms.

Do you like travel and adventure?  Perhaps experiencing different cultures or being on the fringe of alternative media is your thing?  You can go anywhere when you start here.

4. Creating a dynasty.

Leaders and doers who are after massive success usually have this ambitious mindset.  It can be dangerous if it compromises a good life balance.  However, with the right destiny and serendipity, all dreams are realized.

5. Leaving a legacy.

Do you want your works to be remembered in history?  Whether it is art, science, or spirituality, you can have you name be etched in time.  It can be a book, a library, or your heroic story of accomplishing something worth carrying forward.

6. Contributing to humanity.

Whether it is a mathematical equation, a metaphysical concept, or a revolutionary technology, you can alter the course of our planet.  From philosophical quotes to modern day banking, your contribution is only a thought away.  What can you contribute to the world?

7. Loving and awakening those we touch.

This world wouldn’t function without everyone and we’re all interconnected.  Knowing this there are those who choose simply to help everyone in their path.  They are peacemakers, and we all need them.

Realizing that different people have different contexts can help us in relating to, and being more understanding of so many more people.

What are you doing with your life?

Writing this article reminds me of one of my favorite songs.  Stuart Knight wrote it, and it ends like this:

Everyone’s got their stage
Everyone’s got their song
It doesn’t matter what your age
It doesn’t matter if you’ve done wrong
This is your life, and you deserve to take it
Anywhere you want to be, you can make it.

Do you want to start a business?
What country will you visit?
Do you want to start a family?
Do you want to cure a disease?
Do you want to be an artist?
Do you want to run the farthest?
Do you want to talk to God?
Or do you want to have your dream job?

You can make it.  I can make it.  We can make it.

We get to live our dreams.

Let’s love the world together...
