What's Your Life Motto?

Bookmark and Share
Hey there everyone!!
Love - Life's Motto

Why is it so difficult for us to sometimes do what we know we ought to do? It seems to require a high level of consciousness, lots of effort, and years of discipline. How is it that sometimes I’m just inspired to write and everything flows, while other times I struggle to get started and continuously second guess myself?

Over the years, I’ve developed mottoes for myself--to remind me of lessons I know, but need to be triggered into implementing. What gets me out of both extremes of either overwhelm or boredom is the phrase, “Happily do what’s next and make the most of it.” Here are some of the intricate nuances that pack a load of understanding.

It's what you do right now that makes the difference.1. Be In The Present

Usually when I’m caught up in some type of drama, it’s drama in my head. There are cycles of thought that we get trapped into, which reoccur and get us stuck. By remembering to do what’s next, we can get out of our heads and into immediate action.

Sometimes people with the worst pasts end up creating the best futures.2. Create a Compelling Future

While “next” is close to “now”, it embodies a subtlety of connecting the dots, and moving forward in a particular direction. It’s not daunting like a life mission or our ultimate dream. But it gets us to the next step, slowly and surely.

Difficulties not because you're doing something wrong, but because you're doing something right.3. Next Doesn’t Have To Be Right

Many people don’t make decisions because they are afraid of making the wrong decisions. But in life, a bad decision is often good experience. That’s what life is about.

Think, Say & Do in Harmony4. “Happily” is the Operative Word

Do we appreciate an insincere apology? Are gifts given with a bad attitude really gits? It does take effort to be in action, but it takes even more awareness to happily do those actions--for that makes all the difference in the world.

Perfect or Imperfect?5. “Most” is not “All”

It makes sense to maximize everything and milk it for all its worth. Rarely are we able to be that optimal. Knowing that we do well (albeit not perfect) gives a good sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

6. “Make” Gives Us Power

We are in control. We have choice. In all of our stress and anxiety, it’s easy to forget that we are steering our vessel.

Everything = nothing with a twist.7. “It” is Everything.

That word allows us to apply the phrase in any situation with any context. Do we want to make most of our time, our relationship, our health, or our resources? It’s having the faith that everything works out in the end, and if it hasn’t worked out, it’s not the end.

What’s your life motto? Over the years, what phrases seem to hold true for you? Which pearls of wisdom help you make your decisions, and get you out of those tough jams? The Landmark Forum calls this your Strong Suit (previously Winning Formula), and many other personal development programs touch on it as well.

Make sense of the journey yourself. If you don’t have a motto, try mine on for size: “Happily do what’s next and make the most of it.”

Let’s love the world together...
