When do you Convert?
I often talk about the four awakening of spirituality, money, politics, and sex. These are powerful awakenings, because more often than not, most people are born into a particular paradigm in each of those areas, and never come to understand any other paradigm, let alone change their paradigm (convert).
But aren’t wise people those who have experienced a bigger spectrum of life?
Rather than just learning from a millionaire who may have inherited his money to been lucky, I’d rather learn from a millionaire who was broke at some point in his or her life. Even better, I love talking to millionaires who have gone bankrupt, and then became millionaires the second time.
Of course it takes a lot of risk, effort, and courage to convert. My brother-in-law converted to Islam in order to marry my sister. People go through severe emotional break-downs when they realize the false left/right political paradigm. Doesn't someone who chose to convert to a particular religion, have a lot more faith than a person who was born into a religion?
So when do you convert? I can tell you when I converted…
I used to update every single HTML page of my web site, until blogging was popularized, and I finally started my blog in 2009. I thought (because Google owned Blogger) I would get much higher search engine rankings/placement if I was to use Google’s platform, Blogger.
Boy was I wrong.
Everybody in the industry has been saying that I should be using WordPress. But I put so much effort in Blogger for so many years, and I knew converting wouldn’t be easy.
It takes a lot of work. Sure, there are “wizards” that say all you have to do is use this conversion tool, but those only go so far.
The pictures don’t get transferred properly, and even text alignment is out of whack! (I thought HTML was supposed to be cross-platform.) The videos don’t convert at all, and I am now going through and modifying all of that code.
Why am I telling you these technical details that you may not understand nor care about? Because any time we want to shift big paradigms in our life, there are tons of nuances (like that) that can keep us from moving forward.
Don’t let that stop you from converting, if you want. Know that it is a process. It takes time. But start now. Don’t wait four years like I did.
You can view my new WordPress blog at
http://blog.ordinarywords.com
There are some things that I may have missed in the conversion... I would really appreciate if you can let me know if anything doesn’t work. Thanks in advance!! And please share this new blog with friends, or ask your fellow bloggers to link to my site.

P.S. I chose the subject specifically because it is Pride Week! So what crossed my mind is that some may think that I’m implying “convert”ing sexual orientation is the way to go. Not at all. I understand that many of us are “born this way”, just like I am an albino and can’t change that. But exploring different possibilities of being with other kinds of people, keeps us open, accepting, tolerant, and in love.

Happiness - 3 False Promises
Isn’t our ultimate goal to be happy? As some would say, we want a consistent sense of pleasure within our being.
The personal development industry offers a wide variety of paths to this end-point. Along the way, however, I have found that some programs tacitly reinforce three false promises around happiness.
1. We Should Be Happy
Yes, hearing glorious stories of triumph and success can motivate us. But they can also make us feel unworthy and inadequate. Understanding that most of the world is not as well off as we are, is seldom of little benefit. In many cases, that consciousness only makes us feel worse about the state of our entire world.
An attitude of gratitude can change our state of happiness, but it must be authentic. Some tricks do work, of course. And in such cases, tricks can be the trigger to transform. But a lifestyle full of tricks can lead our consciousness away from truth, creating a delusional reality.
2. We Will Be Happy
Patience is a virtue, and many religions push the ultimate sacrifice by having us wait for a heavenly afterlife. There are lots of techniques, strategies, and methodologies, on our lifetimes, too. We can hire coaches, healers, and practitioners. Maybe it will be the right combination of pharmaceuticals, herbs, and natural remedies? Whatever it is we know (or have faith in), always seems to be insufficient in our darkest moments of despair.
And so if these tools are ineffective, why don’t we just resort to the temporary tools of our culture? That is, entertainment, alcohol, drugs, and sex. These things do make us happy in the moment, and so much of consciousness teaches us to live in the moment.
3. We Must Be Happy
Optimism has been so popularized that it is now a prerequisite of many professional and social interactions. Attitude is everything, fake it to you make it, and a smile is just a frown upside down, right? Being sad, showing frustration, and getting mad all seem to be attributes that are condemned and ironically, frowned upon. ;(
Even when I’m “up” most of the time, I don’t necessarily answer the phone with the greatest enthusiasm each and every single time. Yet, some people question me about that. “How come you are not up today?” they would ask, as if it to be transformed means to be happy 100% of the time.
So what’s the truth? What can I promise you?
Maybe we can’t be happy, and we just will go through whatever we will go through. I hear women go through hours/days like that every month. I think men have their own cycles, too.
But, we could be happy. When we are unable to transform our state of mind by our luck (should), knowledge (will), or need (must), then we could use arbitrary force...
That’s right. We go from the biochemical to the bio-mechanical.
Stop using logic, and stop thinking about it. Take action. We know some of the things we can do to shift our consciousness, but usually talk ourselves out of it first. So stop talking, and do what it is that you are called to do. Even if you are not happy doing it right away, the happiness will creep in on you.
Examples of these types of activities include, dancing to your favorite song, going for a long walk, or watching your favorite movie. For some it could be trying a new activity, making a new recipe, or having a conversation with a friend. Even shopping, traveling, or fine dining are great tools.
That’s what I do. I get into states where I don’t want to do anything. I talk myself out of doing the things I know would give me enjoyment, like writing an article like this.
Then, obviously, I get outside of my comfort zone, and write this article anyway. And guess what? It makes me happy.
Put this blog resource in your toolkit for when you may need that forceful pick-me-up. Our table of contents has lots of articles that may trigger the exact shift you need in the toughest of situations.

Taxes, ZOOM-IN on your Dreams!
http://ordinarysparks.blogspot.ca/2013/06/ila-tax-shield.html
Hey there everyone!!
Very often I am asked what it is I can see and what it is I cannot see. But how can a person who has never seen 100% describe what 5% looks like? The 5% is the 100% to me.
Over the years, of course, I’ve been wanting to answer that question for others. What do I technically see? As a techie, I understand that I had a limited resolution. I grew up with 320x200 screens, and it wasn’t until they went past 640x400 that I stopped noticing the difference. The new MacBook Pro is 2880x1800 which is about 100 times more detail than the original monitors.

4 Strategies to Zoom In on Your Dreams!
Similarly, I can see color, and noticed colors on computers until they got to about 32,000. That may sound like a lot, but today’s hardware has more detail than what the human eye can see which is 16,777,216 colors (calculated by 256 shades to the power of 3 primary colors).
All this does not even include full-motion video, which is explained in my article, Read 300 Books in 5 Minutes!
Why is this important to you (especially if you are not a non-techie)? Because I want you to understand how much detail there can be when you are using the power of your imagination. You must use the power of imagination to Believe In Yourself. Our imagination has the infinite amount of detail we need to create in our visualizations, so that they are more real than real.
Perhaps a more grounded example of what I see, is what you would see through a foggy shower door. You can distinguish a body and shape, but not recognize the person specifically. Knowing that the world had more detail than I could see, I found ways to understand that detail, so I could live more functionally in the world and enjoy more of life.
Here are some examples of how you can use the same tools to create the life of your dreams.
1. Make it a Hollywood Blockbuster Sensation
I love going to the movies because everything on screen is larger than life. Because I have a small resolution, by zooming in (the camera) on such a huge canvas (the screen), I see details that I am not able to see in my everyday life. I can see wrinkles on faces, lifts of the eyebrow, or the smirk of the subtle smile. All these things I discovered through Hollywood. :)
When you visualize, notice that amount of detail on the people you interact with. Cast yourself in a multi-million dollar production. Have the lights and sound be perfect. Make it better than iMax 3D with Dolby Surround Sound. Use special effects like you are the creator of this reality, because you are.
2. Don’t Forget the Power of Smelling & Tasting
Not having much of an interest in cooking, it’s hard to imagine why I would be so into MasterChef. I didn’t like other cooking shows before, but because of MasterChef, I’m now getting into them! I even found myself getting cooking lessons from a good friend. Initially I thought I loved MasterChef just because it showed such passionate people with incredible ambition. But then I realized it’s also taking the time to show each dish larger than life (some foods are zoomed in so close that only parts of the dish can be seen, as that extreme magnification shows so much more detail).
I always understood that presentation was an important part of food. But I never really got to see my dishes! I can’t hold them up so close to my eyes, because my eyes would get spices in them -- it would be very awkward. Now my mouth waters in new appreciation when I can see the exquisite detail, dripping sauce, and steaming heat from a delicious dish.
Take the time to use the power of smell and taste in your dreams, touch the foods of the world you’re going to experience, and savor those moments now.
3. Have Future Conversations Now
I interact in conversations with Bon Jovi, Oprah, and the Dalai Lama. It’s fun. It may never really happen in real life. But if/when it does happen in real life, it won’t feel any different.
See (no pun intended), it’s not just about wishing and hoping to talk to cool celebrities... It’s conjuring up conversations that would make sense, that would be mutually relevant, and that would create benefit for others. Manifesting that level of detail in our minds is what makes that so much more real in the universe. Your mind will automatically think of possibilities to make that vision into a reality.
4. Take Virtual Tours In Your Mind
Walk around in your fantasies. Stroll down streets. Open up the cupboards. Peek under the rocks. Smell the air. Feel like you are already there.
Have you played a video game where you are in a 3D world? Did you ever watch a virtual tour of a new real estate property? You have that type of processing power in your brain. Do you know about fractals? You can keep zooming in onto beautiful images (mathematically generated by a simple equation), infinitely. That’s means forever.
Nature it like that, too, with fractals everywhere. No matter how much you zoom in, there continues to be an infinite amount of detail. Philosophy is like that, whereby applying more detailed specific examples to any teaching, makes visible more nuances which generate more philosophies to compensate.
So make your dreams like fractals, too. Zoom in to an infinite amount of detail. Do a Google Fly-Through into your life's future. Get lost in your fantasies. And let’s meet each other in our mutually created realities.

Believe in Yourself – How I See & How You Can Too
What do you want to accomplish? Where do you see yourself in five years? How do you want to live your life?
No matter what the answers are to those questions, the most important ingredient in your success is your belief in yourself.
But what if you don’t have the experience, the skill, or the knowledge? Is it possible to still believe in ourselves? I didn’t believe in myself when I was growing up. Being blind and an albino had me feeling left out and isolated. I wanted just to function as a regular person in society, but how could I do that without simple eyesight? I didn’t have the experience and I understood that I didn’t have the ability. I had to believe in myself, anyway.
1. Use the power of imagination to believe in yourself.
I was stuck because I couldn’t see and I felt that that was a hindrance for me. So what I did was, I used my imagination to see. I caused myself to see even though I didn’t have the stimulus to see. And when I did that, the world was just as real to me as if it would be if I could see. In fact, it was more real because it was the way I wanted it to be.
That was more empowering because I created a reality that was more real than most people’s reality as it had an infinite amount of detail I could focus on. It also allowed me to project that reality onto others – to share with people what I saw that they couldn’t see. And when I did that, I created a way of communicating, sharing, and having them understand what my vision was so that they saw it as clearly as I did (which was more real than real).
I had lots accidents, bumps, and continue to get better every day. Today most people have no clue that I’m legally blind. I am more functionally mobile that most people because I was able to use my imagination (with memory, intelligence, intuition) and created a world in my mind that I could then easily navigate.
So how does this apply to you?
Let us suppose you are a brand new sales representative in a company. The first thing to do is not see yourself as being brand new. You have to see yourself five years into future as a top performer. And visualize that to infinite detail...
Don’t just understand that intellectually, but what would it taste like? What would it smell like? What would your day look like? What would your environment be like? What would your relationships be like? What would your health be like? What would your spirituality be like? What would your thoughts be like? What would you be wearing? Who would you be in relationship with? What would your daily regiment be? See that in such infinite detail that you forget that it is not real.
And when you forget that it is not real, you realize it is real, for it has manifested.
Your imagination may get you into a little bit of trouble, but then a little bit of trouble is what life is all about!
2. Not listening to other people will strengthen your belief in yourself.
Many times that means you don’t listen to people who don’t know what they’re talking about. Here’s a tip: Most people have no clue what they are talking about.
As I was growing up and getting to know the city, I was first shy to ask people for help. But when I did ask people for help in terms of getting directions, I realized that most people have no clue where they are. It’s surprising, but true. Some people would give me the wrong directions and make my life much worse. However well-intentioned, I eventually learned to trust my own judgments, instincts, and have faith, rather than rely on strangers for directions.
Ultimately, I had to believe in myself.
While you may already believe in yourself for navigating the city, what don’t you believe in yourself about? What are your dreams? The first step is to use your imagination, and believe in yourself.

3 Worst Life Experiences
There’s a certain paradox that happens when one becomes so good at something... We become unconsciously competent (the fourth stage of learning, after unconscious incompetence, consciousness incompetence, and conscious competence), where we do not even realize how transformed we are.
Being functional in society without the use of sight has been a tremendous amount of work. The personal development industry taught me not to focus on the pain, and so I haven’t, and have forgotten about it. However, when I want to inspire people with examples of my personal transformations, I need to take time and dig deep into all the traumas I have buried over the years.
It’s further ironic how when I do take the time to spell out the difficulties, some people automatically respond with, “why are you so negative?” failing to realize that I am deliberately being negative for their benefit. It’s not a fun place to be, and so it is a sacrifice for me to be willing to visit these dark places.
Here are three examples of my life experiences that most people would never need to deal with. They are my worst life experiences, but probably not yours.
1. Dropping a Drink
People always somehow try to diminish the validity of my examples by asserting that they too have similar challenges. Sure, other people may drop a drink now and then, but the mere frequency of dropping the drinks is what makes all the difference in the world. It disrupts conversation, and for those who don’t know I’m visually impaired, it makes me just look like a clumsy person.
Then there is the extra cost associated to dropping drinks (a $7 drink actually cost $10 with tax/tip, and considering I don’t always know that I got the correct change, I’m know I lose money like this on a consistent basis. Then there’s the wine stain that may be on my shirt that I don’t even notice. And as I go to other venues, people think less of me because I have a stain on my shirt. This again adds to cost, in terms of laundry, dry cleaning, or even needing to replace certain garments.
This may sounds like a lot of extra stuff, but I haven’t even begun to share all the endless ramifications from one simple tipping of the glass can cause. In fact, the variables are all different when I drop a glass in my own apartment, as described in my article from January 2007, Search for Independence.
2. Missing a Bus
Most people may see a bus approaching their stop, and will run (maybe even through a yellow light) and catch that bus instead of waiting an extra half hour. Not possible with me, of course. What’s worse is that sometimes the bus drivers don’t even stop, assuming that I’m waiting for another bus just because I’m not stepping out. But even if they do let someone off at the wrong stop, that person can easily find their way to where they need to be.
For me, even when I give myself an extra hour to get somewhere I haven’t been before, it may not work out. I might get there an extra hour early, which sucks. But when I’m late for a job interview, as an example, the prospective employer just sees me as not being punctual, and I miss out on a potentially amazing opportunity.
And even if money was no object, taking cabs isn’t much easier. Hailing a cab is next to impossible. Most of the drivers don’t understand that I can’t see, and it takes me forever to get them to get me exactly to my address. If I’m lost, cabs will never come to an intersection without a street number, and I can’t see street numbers. So many times I’ve wasted money with cab drivers driving around in circles unable to find my address – and I’ve missed render-vous points for out-of-town business trips.
3. Making an Accounting Error
I’m an entrepreneur and do my own books. Sometimes, in the midst of all those spreadsheets, I will make a transcription error, except I won’t know that I made a transcription error. I may spend the next 2 to 3 hours trying to make everything balance, with no luck. I go over the all the data fields, double checking everything, but my eyes just don’t notice that darn transcription error.
Making phone calls is the same thing. I may misdial a number, not knowing that I misdialed it. All this adds to the time it takes to be productive and get stuff done by connecting with the right people. Not to mention how demoralizing it can be when you realize that half of your time is spend just dealing with stupid things that most people would never need to deal with.
I wonder how much money I’ve lost over the years with mistakes that had to do only with my lack of sight. I know specific examples of being in business partnerships where because of my lack of sight, things screwed up and the partnerships dissolved. It really sucks. But what else do you do but keep going on?
These are just three examples that I thought would be simple to share. There are hundreds more. I am unconsciously competent of transcending (not necessarily overcoming) the difficulties of my life (except at the instance of this writing, of course). I don’t dwell on the challenges, but I share the challenges so that they may inspire you to be more grateful and productive in your endeavors. If I can transcend these challenges, you can transcend yours.

Old is the New New
Principles don’t change over time. However, wisdom realized that modernization is required. It’s not changing the content, it’s beautifying the presence. It’s packaging, it’s cosmetics, but it’s everything.
For example, I took one of my top articles, “12 Components to True Wealth” and simply added hyperlinks to each of the twelve components, that takes people to relevant articles diving deeper into each subject. It’s transforms a 2-D article into three dimensions.
Plus, I’ve learned to add Visual Quotes to each of the articles, making them much more compelling and engaging. (I learned this from Facebook).
Check out the My Blog 2.0. It’s a masterpiece of personal development.

Expect the Unexpected
Sometimes the best way to get people’s attention is to say the opposite of what they would expect. And it’s not necessarily deceiving people, because there’s truth in everything. In fact, Niels Bohr said, "The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth."

I remember seeing a filing system that had the labels, “General”, “Miscellaneous”, and “Other”. What kind of files were these?!
There are a ton of blog posts I have done over the years. Only the best of the best become part of this book-style blog. But as I browse the archives, I find new gems that, although can’t fit anywhere else in the book, deserve an honorable mention. So here we go:

Ready to Listen?
What can I say that will make a difference for you?
The answer is, absolutely nothing.
It doesn't matter what I say. What matters is how you listen.
The foundation to everything is how you listen.
There are so many different ways we can listen. Sometimes we think of the cliche‚ of two-ears-and-one-mouth: I'm supposed to listen more often than I talk.
Yet we don't realize how often it is that we are talking, because most of the time that we are talking it is not with out mouth but with our mind. We think that we're listening, but in the back of our mind we're saying stuff to ourselves. Stuff like, "I have other things to do," or "this is too long..."
You could be listening and saying, "Well, that doesn't make sense," or "that doesn't apply to my life," or "that's not applicable to me."
And when you listen from that context, all those things will be true.
When you listen from "How can I use that," "How can I apply that in my life,", or "What can I take from that that I haven't taken before - even though I understand that or heard that before - what about that am I not applying 100% in my life?"
If you listen from that context, all of a sudden, you get so much more.
There will be blog posts that totally distract you from your life, and one recipient may have their day brightened by that same post. At the same time, there may be a post that can totally change the world, and nothing happens.
Again, it's not because of what's said. It's because of what's heard.
So my question to you is, "are you ready to listen?"

Rude Awakenings from Celebrities
Are You An Idiot?
What do Kevin O’Leary, Judge Judy and Alex Jones have in common?
Most would agree that they are all very successful, powerful, and well-spoken individuals. Yet some would argue that they are angry, loud, rude, and obnoxious.
All three of them have been known to say directly to people, “You’re an idiot.”
But is it a lack of compassion that they have, or is it tough love?
If they really cared about people and wanted the world to be a better place (as all three claim they do), then wouldn’t it be right to take the time and educate somebody, instead of being derogatory? What’s more mature?
The challenge is that all three of them are also entertainers -- just like I am. Do I cross the line when I ask you, “Are you an idiot?”
Does Tony Robbins cross the line when he says “fuck” in his presentations?
It’s the nature of our attention-grabbing and ADD culture. Unfortunately, it works. But interestingly enough, some people still don’t get it.
They think these characters are somehow evil or misinformed. No, they are actually extremely intelligent. They know exactly what they are doing, including the reaction they might be causing in you.
Does it really help to hurt people’s feelings by calling them names? What about that sticks-and-stone rhyme? If we can’t get past some authority figure calling us a superficial name, how are we ever going to understand real issues? One way to accelerate the global awakening is to lose patience for the losers.
Of course the paradox is the old motto, “all for one, and one for all”. And I say, let’s love the world together, too. So the transformation again is becoming conscious of this spectrum, then choosing where to sit for now.
A truly transformed person, right or wrong, would authentically consider whether they have or have not acted like an idiot. And even if they haven’t acted like an idiot, there is room for improvement in the way they communicate such that they don’t evoke those kinds of remarks.
At the end of the day, it’s language. It’s meant to empower, not to destroy. But whether it is empowering or destroying, it is not the communicator doing so. It is in the recipient.
