The Mexican Fisherman’s Tale

Bookmark and Share
Hey there everyone!!

My father used to tell this fascinating story about pursuing wealth to anyone who would listen.  It stuck with me, and I found a well-articulated version on our amazing Internet...

A businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large tuna. The businessman complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied only a little while.

The businessman then asked why he didn't stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The businessman then asked, but what do you do with the rest of your time? The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos; I have a full and busy life, señor."

The businessman scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and I could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats; eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the processor and eventually open your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City where you would run your expanding enterprise."

The Mexican fisherman asked, "But señor, how long will this all take?" To which the businessman replied, "15-20 years." "But what then, señor?" The businessman laughed and said, "That's the best part! When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions."

"Millions, señor? Then what?" The businessman said, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."

The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "Isn't that what I'm doing right now?"

...

Isn’t that a beautiful story?  Remember that success is a journey, not a destination.  Be here now.  Enjoy.

Simple words.  Relatable stories.  Powerful inspiration.

Three Life Lessons from an Albino

Bookmark and Share
Hey there everyone!!

At nine years of age, I was going to a summer camp and having lots of fun.  One day we to an outdoor swimming pool, and I just laughed it up, splashing and maneuvering my around.

It wasn’t until I got home that night that I noticed I had huge sun burns all over my body.  The next day, two huge blisters an inch tall each, materialized on my shoulders.  I was in excruciating pain, and I couldn’t even lean back or go to sleep for several days.  I would be peeling off layers of my skin for months to come.

That was the day I realized what it means to be an albino.

For each albino, the degree of pigmentation loss (skin/hair) and the degree of blindness varies.  It’s also difficult to understand partial sight, especially as we are discovering it for ourselves as a child.

1. There are things we cannot see.

Not being able to read books or see the blackboard in school became obvious barriers of daily living.  More subtlety, as I grew through adolescence, I realized I couldn’t recognize people, nor communicate with them visually.  Not being able to see all the meal options at fast food restaurants was annoying.  It was sad not to be able to drive a car like my peers, which became an obstacle to many career options I had wanted to pursue.

As I applied the law of attraction and focused on other positive aspects of my life, I would soon realize there was a whole lot of other stuff I was not seeing.  For example, there are the thousands of street advertisements (highways, buildings, public transit) I do not get to see.  Even in print media and television around us everywhere, I don’t see the product placement or subliminal messages.  Over the years, this has kept my mind from distractions and social conditioning.  It has also given me the mental time to think about so many other things of my own conscious choosing.

2. What everybody else sees...

Because of our unique and distinct look, everyone recognizes us immediately, and strangers stare at us constantly.  It was difficult to hide or to do anything discretely.  I thought this was great – I can be who I am, totally authentic and transparent, and not pretend to be someone I’m not.

While those traits are important, over time I’ve learned how social conformity and mass appeal can also affect connecting with people.  Being fashion conscious, although superficial, has made a huge difference for me.  As one of my best friends said to me, I could be the most beautiful person in the world, speaking the ultimate words of wisdom and genius--but if there’s something stuck in the middle of my teeth, that’s what everybody will see and focus on.

3. How do we see ourselves?

There were so many points of danger, poverty, and abuse throughout my childhood, that I just had to block all of that out in order to survive in this world.  I had to visualize myself living a functional and fulfilling life before it would manifest.  And that can take years of practice and discipline, until you realize that you are living the life of your dreams.

It’s interesting, however, to meet strangers who are so quickly inspired by me and tell me how much courage I have.  I feel that I didn’t have any other choice.  What else was I going to do with my life?  To remain cynical and passive throughout my life would have taken a lot more courage to experience that nightmare.

Wherever you are, you’ve made it.  You’re here.  I’m proud of you for being here.  The circumstances, whatever they are, they are.  You’re still standing.  And I bet, even smiling every now and again.  :)

You may not be worried about sun burns, or social acceptance, but I know you have your own life challenges.  I hope I can be a source of some of your inspiration.

Viral YOUR OWN Video & Facebook Page

Hey there everyone!!

I just thought of an amazing idea that could be of great service to you.

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about promoting on the Internet, and what it takes to create a growing and ever-lasting word-of-mouth campaign through social media.

For example, some people simply send out YouTube links, promoting YouTube, and giving their viral away.  Other people don’t encourage users with social media buttons.  Still others don’t incentivize viral through a reward.

Instead of teaching all of this, I just put my technical skills to use, and created a page that YOU can use to viral YOUR videos and/or Your Facebook page(s).

If you don’t have a video or a Facebook page, you don’t need either.  Actually, you can promote your favorite video of someone else, promote your friend’s page, or use this tool to create a viral tool for one of your friends/colleagues as a gift!  (People love seeing THEIR videos on other web pages.)

Companies spend tens of thousands of dollars on social media and viral campaigns.  Now you have your own.

http://ordinarywords.com/viral

Right now it’s showing the introductory video about me (inspirational entertainment).  If you haven’t seen it, you’ll enjoy it.  Once you share the video, you will see instructions on how to use this page to promote your own stuff.

This is the incentive others will have to promote YOUR stuff.  See the viral?  It only takes a few minutes and doesn’t require any coding.

KONY 2012 Scam

Bookmark and Share
If you’ve already shared the viral film 2012, consider this perspective:
http://ordinarywords.com/kony2012

Hi there everyone!!

After posting this viral film (now over 40 million views) on my Facebook wall, I was a little surprised to see comments about how evil some people are and how some people should “never” be forgiven.  Ironically, this perpetuates the same problem (more hate).  Love is the answer.

There are always many perspectives, and I think maturity has to do with being willing to talk about various perspectives, rather than dismiss them out of an emotional reaction.

http://ordinarywords.com/kony2012

I promoted KONY 2012 (and in many ways, I still do), but I feel it is important to share this video which shows another perspective about it.

The genius of the world’s power structures is having us use each other, in the name of philanthropy, to promote more war and hate.

I don’t know what’s true, but I do know what’s useful.  And it is useful to watch both KONY 2012, and this video about it.

P.S. I believed in Global Warming for the longest time, and when I got introduced to an alternative perspective through The Obama Deception, I simply questioned my indoctrination.  What I found most fascinating is the knee-jerk emotional/religious reaction of “Global Warmists” who would not even consider another possibility.  We’ll see if the following of KONY 2012 is able to consider another possibility.

KONY 2012

Bookmark and Share
Hi there everyone!!

“So where’s the solution?” is what some people ask, continually, even when the solution is staring at them right in the face.

It’s a conditioned response, socially engineered, to keep us away from the true solutions.

“It's not that I'm so smart,
it's just that I stay with problems longer.”
-- Albert Einstein

Looking at the problem is the start of the solution.  That’s why sharing information, videos, and resources with one another is one of the biggest solutions.  Especially now with the Internet, the time has come for collective consciousness evolution.  So what’s the problem?

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you,
then they fight you, then you win.”
-- Mahatma Gandhi

So when you share, people are going to ignore you.  Let them.  When you talk to some people, a few will laugh at you.  Laugh at yourself with them.  And some people will fight you.  Work with them -- here’s how:

Reverse-engineering these three challenges, we come up with the three steps to changing the world.

1. Communication

Be in conversation and community.  Practice self-expression.  There will be those attracted to your energy and want to engage.  Utilize social networks so that you communicate to those who want to listen to what you have to say.

2. Compassion

Listen.  Especially to those that criticize, for we need this world to work for everyone.  Be open to new possibilities, various cultures, and spiritual practices.

3. Co-Operation

Believe that all people do the best they can do with the resources they have.  Today we can collaborate all our world resources in ways that were not possible before.  For example, the Internet is a vehicle where we can now work with people around the world without ever meeting with them in person.

Sharing is the trinity of these three.  It is communicating something we are passionate about, that allows for a co-creative process towards transformation.

That’s why we don’t have to change everything about the world, just the area of interest that resonates with us.

Here’s a great example of a short film that will be changing the world -- through communication, compassion, and co-operation – by capturing Joseph Kony, one of the world’s worst war criminals.

http://kony2012.com

Over 30,000,000 people have already seen this film in the last couple of weeks.  But I’m sure we’re going to get to over 100,000,000, so I’m doing my part.

Let’s love the world together...
