Six Tricks to Good Conversations

Bookmark and Share
Oh My Goddess!  I just came up with this.

1. Ask questions.  What kinds of questions do you ask?  Could you ask more about people’s feelings and opinions, rather than just facts and information?  (Interrupting with a question is also a gracious way to redirect a nonstop-talker.)

2. Be unique.  Think of varying answers to typical questions like “How are you?” and “What do you do?”  There’s a wide vocabulary you can choose from, and every job has more than one function.

My favorites over the years:
- I’m having the best day of my life!
- I’m better than I’ve ever been, but not as good as I’m going to be.
- I’m on top of the world.

You’ll start-off with great energy, the other person’s undivided attention, and a genuine desire to engage in the conversation.

3. Leave space.  While it may feel awkward in our culture at first, allow for silence or the experience of just being with someone.  Connection at a whole other level becomes possible.

4. Speak your thoughts.  Allow yourself to be self-expressed without filtering or judgment.  Most people will appreciate this, and if something embarrassing is said, most people will forget that.

5. Escape what you don’t enjoy.  If the conversation isn’t great, gracefully exit.  Some people need to learn that they need to improve their social skills, and politeness rarely helps.

6. Practice at an event, and share this with your friends.

P.S. Do you know people who could improve their conversational skills?  Send them this e-mail, and CC some other people so it’s not that obvious.  ;)

The Power of Now reading this now

What you think about is only fantasy.
What you talk about is your dream.
When you take action something becomes possible.
And when it’s scheduled -- now that changes everything!

Hey there everyone!!

Being in the moment doesn’t mean doing nothing and expecting everything to work out.

Being in the moment is about designing your future from the all present options available to you, and then being okay with whatever happens.

Sometimes what happens is magic.  Once something is scheduled, the universe alters, and new possibilities emerge.  Even if what was scheduled does not come to pass, your destiny has been shaped by your mere act of scheduling.

Schedule something now that you’ve been procrastinating.

3 Attributes of Cool People

Bookmark and Share
Hi there everyone!!

Our events are always different (innovative and creative), but there’s one common element that is our winning formula.

Our community has cool people, and so our parties are full of cool people.

Why? What’s so special about the people we know?

These are three qualities we have distinguished, which you can employ to better your experience at events.

1. Being Proactive.

This means that when you are at an event, you don’t just hang around the people you came with. You are proactive. You make the effort to approach people you do not know, or would like to know more. You start interesting conversations. And you take initiatives to laugh, play, and deepen relationships.

2. Being Open.

This means that when you are looking at someone, or talking to someone, that you do not prejudge who they are. You are open to their perspectives, their behaviors, and their lifestyle choices. You truly consider what the other person has to say, and you allow for a space which has them feel accepted.

3. Being Authentic.

This means that when you are sharing with someone, you don’t try to put up an image or hold status. You’re more than honest, you’re vulnerable. You take the time to express yourself completely, so that you can have substance to your connections.

Are you proactive? Are you open? Are you authentic?

The best way to be that way is to be around people who are that way.

That’s why people in our community are constantly asking me to host another party.  Although I love hosting parties, they are a lot of work, and they cost money to produce.

Maybe soon...

Mark off Fri/July 15 for an Awesome Party!

Bookmark and Share

Hi there everyone!!

I haven’t hosted a party for the general public since by my birthday 10 months ago, so this one is going to be huge!

Remember the FriendshipSlut parties I used to co-host where we guaranteed that you would meet 10 people you like, and 1 person that you didn’t?

Then there was the big Wellness Party where we had live singers, a dance floor, a drum circle, and rooms where people could experience various healing arts from holistic practitioners.

I remember the Roof-Top Party, The Love Party, and the party in my Bay street bachelor apartment with over 200 people throughout the night!  But I’m sure there are parties I have hosted that I’ve forgotten about already...

What’s so special about our parties?

People like you, who read e-mails, rather than just complaining that you get too many e-mails.  You’ve learned to distinguish substance from spam, and so you get exposed to cool new parties like these.

People like you, who share what you’re up to, rather than just complain about privacy issues.  You’ve learned that different people like different things, so you share everything.  As a result, more people share with you, making you a more conscious, well-rounded person.

People like you, who engage and support, rather than criticize and judge.  You’ve learned that by helping other people get what they want, life automatically helps you get what you want.

You know more people like you, so I would love for you to share this party with them.  Even if they don’t live close to Toronto (we usually have attendees from other cities, if not other countries), they may know people who do.  That’s the magic of viral, and that’s the magic of our wellness parties!

Are you a Social Entrepreneur?

Hi there everyone!!

When you leave your money dormant in a bank, it isn't dormant at all.  Institutions are leveraging that money (multiplied by 10 based on our fractional-reserve banking system) to fund wars, genocide, and corruption.  There are so many more noble things you can do with your money, especially as the dollar rapidly declines to nothing.  Put your money to work -- on the things you believe in.

Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change.

Rather than leaving societal needs to the government or business sectors, social entrepreneurs find what is not working and solve the problem by changing the system, spreading the solution, and persuading entire societies to take new leaps.
